About Joyce E. Furney
One intent of my work in Raku is to capture the flow of the universe. Balance and harmony
are the essence of that flow for me, a place where tension and repose find oneness. In my
work, I strive to harmonize the divergent elements of self and materials to converge at that
mystical point where all is at rest yet all is in motion. When I pick up each completed form,
I know whether I was at peace with myself and the materials during its creation. To the degree
that I have allowed the universe to flow through me to the finished object, my work rests in
balance and moves in harmony. Not every piece captures this flow, but many do... and they
are a great joy to me. I create to experience that joy and my goal is to share it with others.
